This unpatented mining claim consists of 28 acres along Newsome Creek in the Elk City mining area and contains lots of tailings to work. These tailings were churned up by a bucket dredge in the 1930's, whose recovery system was 60% efficient at best. They left 40% of the gold in these tailings and still smiled all the way to the bank! They turned the bottom upside down where it has been overlooked with the thinking that it had all been worked. The Idaho Geological Survey reports that 10,000 to 50,000 ounces of gold were recovered out of this stretch. If the old timers left 40% of the gold, then there still must be a lot of gold left on this claim! NOTE: The gold in the pictures to the right came from the adjoining claim.
